It’s that time of year again, the holidays are just around the corner and the movie season is coming to an end. To conclude this years’ season of movies, take a look at the newest movies to come.
James Cameron, creator of The Terminator Trilogy and Titanic, has been working on Avatar for the past couple of years and is finally ready to release what is said to be “his brand new masterpiece.” Avatar is about a paralyzed Marine who is recruited to become an avatar. As he is able to walk again, he meets a world of creatures and starts to readjust to life.
The Lovely Bones, directed by Peter Jackson of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, has already been thought of to have possible Oscar nominations. Based on the best-selling book, The Lovely Bones takes place in 1973 as a 14 year old girl named Susie Salmon is murdered. In her afterlife, she tries live in harmony and deal with her killer being on the loose as he is ready to kill again. Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz star as Susies mom and dad, and Academy Award Winner Susan Sarandon as Susie’s grandmother.
For the younger crowd, Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakel is the next installment starring Dave (Jason Lee) and Alvin, Theodore and Simon. As they are starting high school, they begin to take interests in girls, football and other high school activities. The Chipmunks also finally come face to face with the world famous Chippettes.
While preparing for Iron Man 2, Robert Downey Jr. is ready to release his film adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. The film, directed by Guy Ritchie, takes place in the year 1891 in London. He and his partner, Watson (Jude Law), try to find a mysterious cult leader who claims his revenge on Holmes. It’s up to Holmes and Watson to stop them as they wreck havoc among the streets of London. Also starring is Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, who is Holmes’s love interest in the movie.
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus has had a lot of speculation for not only its ensemble cast, but for it being the last movie Heath Ledger starred in before his accidental overdose in 2008. Director Terry Gilliam chose Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp to portray “different sides” of Ledger’s character. The film is about a traveling theatre troupe led by the 1,000 year old Dr. Parnassus (Christopher Plummer). The show is anything imaginable, literally, where they take audience through a world of imagination.
