As Christmas Day is on its way, here’s a look at the Top Ten Christmas Movies of All Time:

10. A Charlie Brown Christmas- There’s only one time of year when you get to hear the whole Peanuts gang shout “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown!” This television special is a great Christmas cartoon for people of all ages. Written by Charles M. Schulz, A Charlie Brown Christmas has been aired on television for the past 39 years and is an amazing Christmas classic.

9. Scrooged- This 1988 adaption of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol,” Scrooged tells the story of television producer Frank Cross (Bill Murray), who lives a cruel and unhappy life with no Christmas spirit at all. As he is preparing to air “A Christmas Carol” on television on Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his mentor and he tells him that he will be visited by three ghosts to show him how important Christmas really is.

 8. The Nightmare Before Christmas- One of Tim Burton’s most classic films, The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story about Jack Skellington, the “Pumpkin King of Halloween Town.” When Jack is introduced to the celebration of Christmas, Jack tries to bring the Christmas spirit to the citizens of Halloween Town.

7. Miracle on 34th Street- This Christmas tale is about a man named Kris Kringle, who is hired to be Santa Claus in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As he is very successful with being Santa, some people are starting to wonder if he actually could be the real Santa Claus after all.

6. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation- The Griswolds are back and ready for Christmas. Clark (Chevy Chase) is getting ready for what he wants to be the most unforgettable Christmas yet. However, things don’t go as according to plan. From burning turkeys, electrocuted cats, terrorizing squirrels and kidnapping bosses, this Christmas is definitely one that’ll be unforgettable.

5. How The Grinch Stole Christmas- Dr. Seuss’s cartoon classic tells the story of the Grinch, a mean hateful creature who overlooks the citizens of the Christmas spirited town of Whoville. When the Grinch decides to put matters into whose own hands, he decides to “steal Christmas” by taking all of the peoples presents, foods, and decorations. But to everyone’s dismay, The Grinch comes to realize how special Christmas really is.

4. The Santa Clause- Tim Allen stars as Scott Calvin, a toy company executive who accidentally kills Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. From this, he is all of a sudden assigned to be the next Santa. Not wanting to have the job, Scott sees that he has no choice, such as how he begins gaining a significant amount of weight, growing big white beards, and by every kid on the block asking him for a present.

3. Elf- This laugh out loud comedy tells the story of “an elf who wasn’t an elf.” Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) discovers that he is actually human and travels to New York City to meet his father (James Caan) and his brand new family. However, Buddy will come to realize that the North Pole isn’t exactly the same as it is in New York. From eating spaghetti with maple syrup, to buying his dad “something special,” this Christmas comedy will keep you and your family laughing and crying on the edge of your seats.

2. Home Alone- While accidentally being left home on Christmas, Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is the king of the house. That means eating junk food, jumping on the bed, and shooting his older brother’s BB-gun. All goes well until two robbers (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) try to break into Kevin’s house. However, these two dimwitted robbers are no match for Kevin’s skills of mayhem and booby traps.

1. It’s A Wonderful Life- This beloved Christmas tale tells the story of George Bailey. On Christmas Eve, George (James Stewart) tries to commit suicide but is stopped by his guardian angel. As he is shown flashbacks of his life, George comes to realize the good that has happened in his life instead of the bad. This Christmas classic is on AFI’s Top 100 Best Films of All Time and has been nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
