The Book of Eli doesn’t disappoint. Denzel Washington plays a machete-wielding, gun-toting wanderer in a post-apocalyptic America filled with bandits, thieves, and no food. The story picks up when Washington’s character, Eli, enters a small town run by a corrupt leader who is after a specific book. The leader finds out that Eli is in possession of the book he’s after and tries to take it by force. Eli escapes and gets pursued across the desert. The ending is intense, and a surprise twist leaves viewers wanting the re-watch the movie.
It’s very similar to other post-apocalyptic movies in that it focuses around a main savior-like character, as he goes through a barren waste land surviving and facing challenges head on. However, a notable difference is the religious aspects to the movie that become more prominent towards the end of the movie.
The fight scenes are excellently choreographed. The setting is excellent and looks exactly like what a post-apocalyptic earth should; barren, dusty, and abandoned cars everywhere. It makes the movie very believable. The dialogue was very natural and flowed very well.
In all, the Book of Eli was a great movie. I would rate this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars, and I would highly recommend everyone to see it.
