Romantic movies are movies which are most of the time dealing with couples, or a specific couple. They give the viewer fiction, fantasy, and sometimes non-fiction stories about couples, romance, and relationships.  With Valentine’s Day still fresh in the air, here are some movies which are each different from the other. They aren’t as famous or popular as awarding winning films like The Notebook or A Walk to Remember, but they still deal with the same word that makes any species cute and cuddly; Love.

The first movie is called Whatever Works. This movie may not seem at all like a romantic movie, but what makes it so is that it deals with love, among other things, throughout the entire film. The main character played by Larry David, is a man who isn’t looking for love or even believes in such a thing. This man is a realist, and sees the world and humanity as it really is, through the eyes of a ‘genius’. This isn’t your average romance film with deep emotional scenes. It’s a movie that defines love in a simple, unavoidable thing we all at one point in our lives stumble upon. It’s a movie that pretty much says you should be happy and enjoy life doing whatever works; whatever makes you happy.

The next movie is a little more popular, and is titled (500) Days of Summer.  The two main characters are played beautifully by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. As soon as the movie starts, it states it is not a love story which is pretty much a contradiction, for the movie is all about love. What makes this movie great is how they made it more real unlike most romantic movies. It in no way shows love as a magical thing we all get to one day experience. This movie is great for its uniqueness on how it is unpredictable, but understandable. If you think of love as a magical feeling that only happens once and is always led by fate, I do not recommend you watch this movie. If you want a more understanding, and another look at a more realistic definition of what love truly is, I definitely recommend it.

Last but not least on this recommendation is Love Actually. This movie is like most romantic films. The kind we are all kind of used to. However, this movie brings together a bunch of love stories and merges them into one making the film different and somewhat unique. It gives us many different situations, with several kinds of loves, and each amidst various endings. Some end happy and some end sad, which is alright because that’s how it is in reality. This is a great and cute movie with many great actors like Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant and many more fantastic actors/actresses. What’s also great about the film is that in the end, it shows you that no matter what kind of love you feel for someone, (whether it’s a close friendship, family, or like always, that special someone) love makes everything great, and the world a little bit better.
