As we know Paula Abdul has been replaced by Ellen DeGeneres on American Idol. Paula Abdul announced her retirement from American Idol on Twitter. What do you think this will do to the ratings and how many people will still watch the show? What does Ellen DeGeneres have that Paula doesn’t?
At the beginning of the season Simon Cowell announced that he is going to leave American Idol after this season. That will bring the ratings way down. American Idol this season is going to be a thrill-ride because you have so many talented artists.
How will Ellen DeGeneres see that? She doesn’t have 54 million albums released before. Ellen has hosted many of the top television shows like The Academy Awards. Paula Abdul knows what music is, and she also knows when she sees it. How can Ellen replace someone like Paula Abdul?
Paula left because she thought that she wasn’t getting paid the same salary that the other judges were being paid. Paula made 20% of Ryan Seacrest’s salary. Paula has been with American Idol for eight seasons and the producers have said “we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”
Paula has threatened to leave the show before, but this time it’s for real. She has announced that she is definitely leaving this time, according to The Hollywood Report on August 4th, 2009. She said on Twitter “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to ‘Idol’ …I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from Day 1 become an international phenomenon … What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me … It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month … I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.” Goodbye Paula, hello Ellen.
