Blockbusters for Summer 2010

As the school year is winding down and summer getting closer, some of the year’s biggest movies are also ready to hit the big screen. To start off with right when exams are over, Get Him To The Greek tells the hilarious story of a record company intern (Jonah Hill) who has to accompany a party-hard rock star (Russell Brand) from London to Los Angeles in three days. In the movie, Russell Brand will be reprising his role of Aldous Snow, from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. According to producers, the movie takes place after the events of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Aldous is no longer sober. Also starring is Diddy, Katy Perry, and a cameo appearance by Today Show anchor Meredith Viera.

Also going on the big screen is the film adaption of the 1980’s hit television show The A-Team. The story follows four U.S. soldiers who a convicted of a crime that they didn’t commit. After their escape from prison, the four team up as “soldiers for hire.” Starring in this action packed film is Liam Neeson, The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper, UFC fighter Rampage Jackson and Jessica Biel.

After 11 years since they were on the big screen, Woody and Buzz Lightyear return in Toy Story 3. The movie takes place as their owner, Andy, is setting off to college. Unfortunately, that means all of the toys in Andy’s room are being donated to a day care center. However, they are introduced to new friends Buttercup the Unicorn (Jeff Garlin), Stretch the Octopus (Whoopi Goldberg) and Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton). Returning to the movie is Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles and Joan Cusack.

Reuniting for the first time in years, five childhood friends relive their childhood days at their old summer camp when their old basketball coach passes away in Grown Ups. Starring in this laugh out loud comedy are Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade. Grown Ups also consists of the cast from the 1990’s cast of Saturday Night Live.

In the new sequel of the 1987 action-thriller, Predators follows a group of people who are abducted by aliens who are known as “predators.” While on their planet, the humans become the targets for hunting. While on the run, they encounter a stranded soldier who fights the predators with them. Starring in this new adaption are Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, and Laurence Fishburne.

A few weeks after, comedians Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd will team up for the third time in the comedy Dinner for Schmucks. Rudd plays a promoted employee who must find the perfect guest for his boss’s annual “dinner for idiots.” Also starring is the hilarious Zach Galifianakis.

In addition, The Other Guys has been the movie that most people in Hollywood have been talking about. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play two under achieving NYPD Detectives who look up to the two top detectives in their precinct, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson. However, when something comes up, the two dimwitted cops rise up to the occasion and be the heroes of the day. The film is also noted for a cameo scene involving Yankees Shortstop Derek Jeter playing a homeless man on the streets of New York.  Also starring in this action packed comedy is Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, Anne Heche and Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle.

 To end off the summer movie season, Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables is about a squad of soldiers from all around the world, who come together to overthrow the dictator of a South American country. This ensemble cast consists of Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Steve Austen. The film has also been widely noted for a scene where Stallone will also be with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, the three of which were the iconic action stars of the 1980s.
