It’s hard to deny that Halloween has gone from being about candy, monster costumes, and shaving cream fights, to being about parties, tight spandex costumes, and over all, no standard scariness. Clearly, Halloween has been altered from the family-fun night that was typical during elementary years, to the placebo that is Halloween now. And the area that took the hardest hit is costume originality.
What used to be witches, fairies, buzz-light-year, and ghosts are now ‘sexy’ cops, fire fighters, and any other random occupation you can think of that can be twisted into something seductive. Though sometimes the costumes chosen are a bit much, or depending upon the way you look at it, not enough, this generation of creativity is designed to be more mature. And it’s completely unreasonable to believe that this alteration wouldn’t take place sometime. But who is to determine whether this transition into a more adult state is a good or bad thing?
Halloween is about letting ourselves return to our selfless nine year old spirits, regardless of the dress chosen to wear, and more importantly, about having good wholesome fun. So this year, whether you chose to kick it back old school and simply throw a white sheet over your head, or decide to wear those six-inch stilettos, make sure that you have the time of your life.
