Once again the boys from the Bronx take the series. In a fantastic showing, the Yankees took home the prize in a longer than normal showdown at 4 games to 2.
The Yankees gained their 27th World Series win after facing some tough competition from the Phillies. The Phillies came out swinging in the first game with great pitching by the lefty Cliff Lee who led them to the 6-1 win. The Yankees retaliated though, and took the next three games one after the other. In game two, The Phillies scored first but the Yanks came back with three runs to make the game count even. Game three was high-scoring. The Phillies took an early lead but were overcome by the Yankees in the fifth inning and were unable to get ahead again as they lost 8-5. In game four, The Phillies dug themselves a deeper grave as the Yankees took another game 7-4. As game 5 rolled around, things were looking up for the Phillies as they drew on Utley’s 3-run homerun in the first to lead them to an 8-6 win over the Yankees. Game six was the end of the road for the Philly team as the Yankees ran away with a 7-3 win.
Hideki Matsui drove in 6 of the 7 runs for the Bronx boys and was awarded with the prestigious Most Valuable Player award. It was a great series in which both teams showcased their strength well. The 2010 MLB season starts up again on opening day- Monday, April 5.
