Wrestling is a sport that involves stamina, dedication, talent, and heart. David Burrows, a senior wrestler at West Boca embodies all these traits. He has been wrestling since he was 7 years old. Growing up right outside of Pittsburg, he has learned his craft from his uncle Kerry. Kerry, being a former coach of a two time state champion wrestler, convinced David to move to Boca Raton after his junior year. David has worked and is now ranked 5 in the state for Class 3A 135-pound division.
Though, David’s recent success isn’t what makes this kid special. He has been plagued by injuries throughout his high school career. Dealing with a broken collar bone and fractured elbow, David was forced to miss the past two wrestling seasons. This would be too much for any high school student, but not David. He worked harder than ever to come back to the mat and prove himself as a star wrestler. He was recently quoted in the Sun-Sentinel saying “It was killing me not to be on the mat.”
David continues to work everyday to improve his skills and become number 1 in the state. He works out for hours everyday with both his teammates and his Uncle. He must also watch his diet in order to keep in top shape. With his dedicated worth ethic and love for the sport, David’s future in wrestling looks very promising.

David is one heckuva superstar! He is a role model to all and he exhibits his good character traits both on and off the mat! As his Senior English teacher, I wish him all the best in his future.
