With the start of the 2009-2010 school year came the welcoming of the new bull in charge, Mr. Mark Stenner. When he was working his first job at Dairy Queen, being the principal of West Boca would’ve never crossed his mind. However that he is at West Boca he says, “I am thrilled to be here. I’m looking forward to a nice long run as principal.”
Although he was recruited to Michigan Tech for football, Mr. Stenner started his college career at Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After college he went on to pursue a teaching career. He worked in the language arts department for grades 6-8, math department, and coached high school football. In 1979, the idea of becoming a part of the administration was brought to his attention by his principal at the time. Upon this suggestion Mr. Stenner decided to pursue his administrative career.
Mr. Stenner, who was formerly the principal of Omni Middle School, said, “The change to high school has been refreshing.” Although it is a much bigger campus, older children, and a lot more students, Mr. Stenner believes that it “provides more challenges.”
An aspiration Mr. Stenner has for West Boca is to improve students FCAT reading scores. Mr. Stenner also has big expectations for the Class of 2010; he hopes that it will be the most outstanding class, academically, as well as socially mature and responsible.
When Mr. Stenner isn’t at school he enjoys listening to old time Rock N Roll, classical music, and some country. He also likes playing golf, and surprisingly he watches the Home and Garden Network (HGTV). A priority for West Boca Students is driving the most expensive cars, so it may come as a shock that Mr. Stenner paid only $50.00 for his first car. He split the cost with his twin brother for their, 1957 Chevy Bel-Air 210. This car ended up being his absolute favorite car.
There is much to look forward to with Mr. Stenner leading the herd. The changes that come from having a new principal will form a strong foundation for many years to come here at West Boca.
