October is usually associated with Halloween, but did you know that it is also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month? This October actually happens to be the 25th annual one. All over the country, people, businesses, and organizations are holding and participating in events to help the cause. A lot of money is being raised to help find a cure for breast cancer. Anyone can help out and contribute!

There are several breast cancer fundraisers that are taking place right here in Boca Raton. For example, the Think Pink Rocks concert that took place Saturday, October 3rd in the Mizner Park Amphitheatre. There were a variety of well known musicians performing there, such as: Shontelle, DJ Cassidy, Kardinal Offishall, and DJ Webstar, as well as the main artist, Akon. The event had everything from live, upbeat music to the world’s largest cupcake! The pink cupcake, all 1,315 pounds of it, broke the Guiness World Record and was presented at the concert to support breast cancer research. It was served free of charge to the people who attended the concert.

Another fundraiser held in Boca for breast cancer, is the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, which is also in Mizner Park. The walk takes place Saturday, October 17th in the early morning. There will be free food and drinks offered before the walk begins. Also, this walk is a great way to earn community service hours by volunteering before the walk. West Boca High School’s Key Club is providing volunteers for this event. Furthermore, this walk is a fundraiser that you can get involved in and help out with by not only raising money for breast cancer, but by helping your community as well.

The month of October has a lot more to offer than just Halloween. Besides the concert and the walk, there are many more events and fundraisers that anyone can attend. If you are interested in finding out more information, would like to make a donation to breast cancer, or learn about upcoming events, you can visit www.nbcam.org.
